So this is my first time doing the Curlformers since buying them. I will say that I am impressed with the turn out being that this was my first time. The pictures below show the final look and the look with the curlformers in. they also show the products that were used as well as the tools. It is recommended that you do not sleep in these, I'm a rebel so I did! It was uncomfortable once I first laid down but when I got situated to sleep i didn't feel a thing.
1. Would I do this style again? I would do this style again. I will be purchasing another pack of narrow ones since my hair is so thick, but I do have the wide ones so I will be trying those to see what the outcome will be. 2. would I recommend these? I would recommend trying them, you may never know what the outcome will be! I managed to achieve the look and I have no sense of hair styling at all. 3. Where can you purchase some? I bought mine off of ebay for a cheap price. You can also buy them at sally's and I believe the beauty supplies stores (don't quote me on that). 4. Any suggestions after purchasing? I would suggest that you take the stick provided with the curlformers and take it through the curlformers. When I went to do my hair I found that the ends were stuck together and this made the time a little longer. I would also suggest that you use both sticks if they come with two to help the process go faster as well. HAPPY HAIR STYLING!!! So I had thought about returning to my natural mane long before it happened. I was in college and did NOT trust people with my hair. I came across friends that knew how to do hair, but the relaxer thing took some time before some one was able to put one in my hair. I can honestly say I probably had about 4 relaxers during my college years and only one was done at school, the rest were done at home by my aunt whom I had been going to since I was little. As i mentioned in an earlier post I was not big on getting my hair done, money was going down the drain. I was taking my hair down two weeks after getting it done and into a ponytail it went.
When did I make the final decision? Well my official decision was made in September of 2012. I let my roommate go scissor happy. I was in the transition stage, this is the process of letting your natural hair grow and cutting out the relaxed hair as the natural hair grows in. I had terrible fails of working with my relaxed ends and my natural roots. I tried doing roller sets but I personally was not satisfied with the outcome. After each hair wash I slowly cut away the relaxed hair, but the last wash with both textures ended my transition, I could not deal with both at once anymore. I will be honest and say that I was hoping and expecting to actually have a curl like the YouTube videos show, do not get me wrong; there are some that have the afro type hair but I did not see many. So I was not happy with my hair type at first, I LOVE it now! It took sometime for me to Love my hair and there are a few reasons why: 1. I was not use to the "nappy hair" 2. I did not see anyone with my type of hair and I wanted to do the styles i had seen on YouTube 3. I was socialized into believing that my hair was "bad" hair (IT IS NOT!) 4. I do NOT know how to do hair (You are probably thinking than what the heck you go natural for right? Well here are the up's of my year and 10 months of being natural: 1. My hair has grown more than it did during the times of having relaxers especially the spot where i always put my ponytails and the same area where I probably did not wash the relaxer out of my hair very well. 2. I have learned to do a few things to my hair although they are styles someone can do with their eyes closed but I take the time to actually do my hair. 3. Lastly and most importantly, I have learned so much about myself and how to accept myself for who I am, not what others say or think I am. I would like to send a huge THANK YOU to the person that have supported me on my hair journey the most! from the time I was thinking about making the decision to the time I let my roommate go crazy with the scissors, you have been there and continue to be there. You have seen me completely hate my choice of cutting my hair to me being in strong liking of my hair. As they say you are the real MVP lol. I honestly can't say thank you enough for the support you have given me thus far, if it wasn't for your help and support I honestly would have been lost with my journey and my Senior Sem. would have been a different topic. Know that I support you as well in all that you do. I am also thankful to have you in my life, you are a true blessing from above!
What your favorite products and why?
The real question is what are my manes favorite products and why lol. My mane and I have a relationship that is complicated. What I like and what it like are some what different but also the same. I like the cantu Shea butter leave-in-conditioner and another leave in conditioner will list that once I remember what it is. These are my favorite because they make my hair extra soft and easy to comb through, but they don't keep my hair moisturized as I would like. My manes favorite products are grease and water though my favorite products help with styles like two strand twist and the flat twist my mane just eat it like no other. I often refer to my mane as a male because it doesn't listen to what I want or do what I want lol but we are making it. There are a few reason as to why I returned to my natural mane:
1. I was not big on getting my hair done as a child unless it was braids or putting it into a ponytail. 2. I was a college student and did not trust anyone to put a relaxer in my hair and again I was not big on getting my hair done. 3. I really wanted to see what my natural mane looked like since I really didn't get to as a child. my mom kept it in braids, hot combed it or it was in pigtails. 4. Lastly, I wanted to challenge myself and accomplish a goal that I had and that was to regain length. Welcome to a site that will bring you real talk about hair, current events, social issues and most importantly laughter! I am here to share my hair journey experience especially as a 4c textured queen.
